4th WMU Research and Creative Activities Poster Day April 9th
Make sure you check out the fourth annual WMU Research and Creative Activities Poster Day!
The event is being held on Friday, April 9 at the Fetzer Center (Rooms 1035, 1045 and 1055). See the work of 41 graduate students and 20 faculty members of WMU. Keynote addresses at 11 am in the Kirsch Auditorium by Dr. Michael Grammer, associate professor of geosciences and Dr. Takashi Yoshida, associate professor of history the two faculty members designated WMU's 2009 Emerging Scholars. (For more details see the WMU news article: http://www.wmich.edu/wmu/news/2010/04/019.shtml).
(The event is co-sponsored by the Graduate Student Advisory Committee and the Office of the Vice President for Research).

Graduate Student Appreciation Award Application Deadline March 26
This is just a reminder that the Graduate Student Appreciation Award applications are due MARCH 26th by 5:00 PM.
This award will be presented during the Graduate Student Appreciation Reception scheduled for April 16th, 2010 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. This reception will be open to all graduate students and will take place at The Richmond Center for the Visual Arts. (More information on this exciting event on the GSAC website).

WSA Elections - Make sure you vote!
Greetings Fellow Graduate Students,
You may have heard through the grapevine about the possibility of being assessed a sustainability fee. This sustainability fund would cost students $8 per fall and spring semesters and $4 per summer session. Please exercise your right to vote YES or NO in this weeks WSA election if you haven't already. NOTE: The only way to vote on this fee is to get involved in the WSA election process. The Western Student Association represents the entire WMU student body so please stay informed. To read some of the news headlines on this issue check out westernhearald.com.

Real Talk Diversity Series, Feb. 23, 2010 at 6 PM
Real Talk Diversity Series presents...CAMPUS "ISIMS" A Dialogue on Ideologies, Stereotypes, and Misconceptions. This event is co-sponsored by: The Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Lewis Walker Center for Race and Ethnic Relations, andthe Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC).
This open panel discussion will be set up like a talk show. Key panelist will be available to facilitate a rich discussion among the audiance about campus "isims" (e.g. racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, etc.) prevelant on WMU's campus.

There are two exciting GSAC events this week.
The first event is on Thursday (January 28, 2010). This event "Popcorn and a Movie" will be held at The Little Theater from 8-10 PM. The movie will be "Sometimes in April" starring Idris Elba and Debra Winger. (For more information about the movie: http://www.hbo.com/films/sometimesinapril/). GSAC/GFAC meeting this Friday in Sprau Tower
The January GSAC meeting will be held this Friday January 22nd at 3 pm in Sprau Tower (10th floor conference room). We will provide yummy food, beverages, updates, and a brief guest speaker. (The GFAC meeting will take place at 2 pm in the same location).
Reminder: Deadline for Hilltop Review Submissions is Feb 1, 2010
The Hilltop Review: A Journal of Western Michigan University Graduate Research accepts submissions from any current Western Michigan University (WMU) Graduate student. Papers and artworks are welcome from students in any of the University's graduate programs. They will be evaluated by an editorial board composed of WMU graduate students.
You can find the guidelines for submitting paper and artwork submissions here. There are current three different ways you can contribute to the next edition of The Hilltop Review:
Submission should be made online at the following website: https://www.easychair.org/login.cgi?timeout=1;conf=hilltopreviewspring2010. (You will receive an automatic confirmation email for each submission).
